Okay Ladies it's officially the Christmas Season and the Shopping extravaganza has begun. This has been a rough year financially for many, so I thought I'd share with you some options that teach good financial management that have helped me have a happy marriage, peace you would not believe, and during high stress period, like Christmas, helped me keep my Sanity.
1. Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University Class (FPU). Learn more about it and find a class in your area at www.daveramsey.com . My husband and I participated in this course during our first year of marriage and taught it during our second year. Now almost 3 years later, we are debt free, have a 6 month emergency fund, have enough money to begin shopping for a house to own, and still have enough money to take a small vacation each year.
2. Jenny at www.southernsavers.com helped me cut my grocery bill by 40% this year, leaving me more money for the things I actually want to buy, plus she also advertises sweet deals for other items. If you're looking for deals this Christmas are aren't afraid of coupons, check out this site.
3. Other sites you may want to visit for great deals this Christmas are:
www.retailmenot.com
www.couponcode.com
www.techbargains.com
www.currentcodes.com
www.betterbudgeting.com
www.allthingsfrugal.com/presents.htm
Personal note:
Saving money requires a great deal of discipline. However, the past 3 years of saving and budgeting have taught me a great deal about how selfish and wasteful I can be (I want, I want, I want all the time)-saving has helped me focus more on what I need, and I have learned that I can get what I need and still have what I want, not always when I want it of course, but it's often worth the wait. The goal is to work toward financial peace after all, not immediate gratification. Besides, immediate gratification leaves us spoiled, unfulfilled, ungrateful, and wanting more. These things foster greed, not a loving and giving spirit this Christmas Season!
Have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year everyone!
