In April we get our first view of Spring flowers and feelings of warmth, yet instead of gazing upon and taking in these beautiful things, so many times, we spend all our time looking in the mirror and spending countless hours poking and prodding, putting on make-up to cover up our so called "flaws" etc, even though we know God saw us (his creation) and said it was good. Society and the media tell us that engaging in this daily activity is a necessary feat and if we fail, our lives may be doomed forever, so the intrusive thoughts such as, (perhaps we'll never find a guy to marry or have many friends etc. emerge) In her article Beyond the exterior,in Home Life Magazine, Jennifer McCaman notes the following:
"CoverGirl says your "easy, breezy, beautiful," Revlon thinks your "worth a double take" and Olay tell's you to love the skin you're in." - yet they are selling you cosmetics to polish your outward self.
What about what's on the inside? I know that we would all say, yes I recognize that what is on the inside is all that matters, but knowing something and living something out are two different things entirely. You must believe it to be true if you're going to put it into practice.
Beauty flows from the inside out- I encourage you to take a look at the verses from the Bible below that discuss inner beauty and it's importance from an inward perspective instead of the worldly outward perspective we are so often bombarded with. As you read these verses note that nothing Jesus did on the cross or even on earth was for outward gain or approval, but his death on the cross and his other actions were what was necessary for us to know the depth of his love and purpose for us. He valued his creation so much that he was willing to die for it. Testifying to the fact that who we are comes from what we value. Ladies, be careful not to place too much value on outward appearances and the materialistic things of this world, it is okay to like these things, but to become hyper focused on them can be deceiving and can lead you down a very treacherous path.
Understand the vanity of outer beauty comes from our own sinful nature-Romans 3:23- "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Also understand that on those tough days when you just really don't like yourself inwardly or outwardly -Matthew 11:28- "Jesus says, come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest."
Realize you may have to put yourself together for the "World" but not for you maker God. Psalm 45:11- "The King is enthralled by your beauty, honor him, for he is your Lord.
I hope you know how beautiful you truly are today!
Nice article. There is an incredible amount of pressure on girls and their looks. Long-lasting beauty is clearly on the inside.
