Starting out Positive
In the video above, little Jessica gives us a glimpse into how to start our day with a positive mindset. How many of us really do that though. If we're honest some days start with a list of negatives in the mirror before the positives even cross our minds. It's like we're suddenly flooded with thoughts like:("Work is going to be busy today," "Little Johnny has to go to the dentist, we'll probably have to pay for a filling, "This dress does not look good on me" etc.)
This sort of inside the box negative thinking does not spur us on to do great things with our day. Instead it most often leaves us full of dread and worry and feeling insufficient. It is the battle ground (for example) for which we take our fist and give ourselves repeated permission to beat our selves up. Why is it that only a few negative things lead us to believe we deserve such consistent punishment?
Here are a few things to ponder regarding the above question?
1. Do you have self-trust? are your daily behaviors consistent enough to give you an inner sense that life will continue despite changes and challenges of outside circumstances?
2. Do you believe? do you feel that good things come to those who are faithful?
3. Do you have confidence? do you believe there is opportunity to fulfill your deepest goals and aspirations in life even if you have to seek them out?
4. Do you recognize your responsibility? Do you know your basic needs and are you taking steps to get them meet?
If you are not doing some or all of these 4 steps, chances are your self-esteem is low and you continue to punish yourself everyday as a result. So how do you stop it. One Word REFUTE, REFUTE, REFUTE! in order to refute one's thinking I have to choose to think differently, from the example above, one of my negative thoughts was, ("work is going to be busy") if I were to refute this thought I might say, "this is true, but a busy schedule means job security and I can be thankful and can do my very best) or simply replace all thoughts with a simple quote one of my old college professors used to say to our class every morning..."Today is a good day, and I'm going to be good in it because_____________" and you fill in the blink with something positive.
Hope this helps you start you day more positively! :) This is not easy task, but we must stop beating ourselves up over a few negative things and focus more on the whole picture to see the positives. Feel free to comment.
